My name is Blaise, my students call me, Miss Von

I have worked as a "special education" teacher for Chicago Public Schools and currently teach in a Hammond, IN high school. My passion is helping intellectually disabled children and young adults with basic necessities and resources to assist in their daily lives, academic studies, and post-secondary education.

From 2018 to the present, the U.S. Department of Education data shows a nearly 100% increase in significant disproportionality in the special education field.

In short, this means minority children and young adults are not receiving equitable education and resources within the U.S. public school system. These racial disparities impact children for life, via missed and unavailable opportunities, tools, resources, and unprepared teachers and assistants lacking the needed compassion to understand and care for the children effectively.

Many of my students are in need of the basics; food, clothing, hygiene products, etc. There is also an urgent need for learning and communication tools, as many of my autistic students are non-verbal. My sole objective is to assist this underserved community and attain the essentials for a sustainable quality of life. My pending non-profit, Diverse Learners, aims to expand programming and resources, in addition to, respite care, training programs, skill building, and long-term care.

Diverse Learners need your assistance and partnership by means of money, goods, and services to contribute to this essential endeavor. Please donate what you can and help children who have been excluded and stigmatized by the system. We can "level the playing field" and give these children and young adults a real opportunity to live a fulfilling, beautiful, life. Thank You!!!
